Site-responsive neon sculpture
4m x 3.2m x 1.3m
James Geurts’ newly installed site-responsive neon public artwork ‘Prometheus’ 380 St Kilda Rd Melbourne in the City of Port Phillip, draws on the Greek myth of stealing fire from the gods to give to humanity, (in the form of technology, knowledge, arts and civilization), and the artworks close proximity to ‘The Flame of Eternity’ at the Shrine of Remembrance, across the road in the Royal Botanic Gardens.
ADA conducted a tender process, which saw local internationally acclaimed artist James Geurts win the brief with this extraordinary light work.
Based in Melbourne and London, James’ conceptually driven practice focuses on the way that cultural and natural forces intersect to shape both landscape and perception.
